Located half way between Brisbane and Cairns, is the Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac region. The region is home to approximately 163,000 people who enjoy a relaxed, tropical lifestyle. The Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac region boasts an average of 274 sunny days a year, and average temperatures range between 10 and 33 degrees Celsius.
The region encompasses the three local government areas (LGAs) of Mackay, Whitsunday and Isaac. The Mackay Regional Council covers an area of 7,621 sq km encompassing Eungella National Park and the wonderlands of Keswick and Brampton islands. The region is home to 110,000 friendly and welcoming people that can pursue a wide range of interests in an extremely liveable part of the world. The Mackay region is big enough to have everything you need and small enough to provide the lifestyle you desire. The Whitsunday Coast is home to 74 tropical islands and is bordered by the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It also lays claims to a number of National Parks and State Forests. The region is sub tropical with typically humid and wet summers on the coastal strip and hot dry climate to the west.
As at 30 June 2007, the region had an estimated resident population of 32,017. In addition to these numbers, there are approximately 10,000 – 21,000 visitors in the Whitsunday area at any one time. Encompassing a picturesque 100 km of coastline and stretching west into the agriculture and mining hubs of Central Queensland, Isaac Regional Council covers an impressive area of 58, 862 sq km. A wide range of coastal, rainforest, rural and mining environments make this area ‘the region of first choice’ in diversity of lifestyle and opportunity.
The Isaac Region proudly boasts seventeen unique communities comprising a population of 21, 534 residents. All towns and hamlets within the region have an array of essential services and facilities to make the resident or visitor’s stay a memorable one.
